Only Three Months Away

90 days from today.

September 4, 2010.

The brand new (and decidedly improved) Fighting Irish of Notre Dame under the leadership of new coach, Irish-born, Boston bred, Brian Kelly storm the hallowed and sacred sod  of Notre Dame Stadium, the home of Rockne, the Gipper, the 4 Horsemen, Theismann… Rudy… and yes  – God.

90 days.  That’s all.  So buckle up the chin-strap fellow Irish fans, the Brian Kelly era has arrived, serving up Tradition with a capital T…bringing back  Irish Football, like it used to be – like the ‘old days’ with toughness and  tenacity, along with a tad bit of terror thrown in.   Finally, a coach who gets it.  Who understands the roots, the tradition of excellence, and is doing all the right things to puttin’ the “fighting” back into the Fightin’ Irish.  Hard nosed, clean, tough, hold up your socks with tacks kind of football tough.

God, Country, Notre Dame.

Here’s a great clip that takes place at every Saturday Home Game.  The trumpets playing the Alma Mater and fight song inside the Golden Dome.  And for those of you who are ‘newbies’, or just don’t know your French, Notre Dame stands for “Our Mother“, as in Mary, the Theotokos, the Mother of our Lord.  Can it get any better?  Awesome tradition, incredible football, academics that make the mind spin, all under the watchful eyes of the Mother of God.  Go Irish.

A perfect post for a Friday night.

Did I say it?   Only 90 days away.

Time to start ‘playing like champions’ again.

The words to the Notre Dame Alma Mater

Notre Dame, our Mother
Tender, strong and true
Proudly in the heavens,
Gleams thy gold and blue.
Glory’s mantle cloaks thee
Golden is thy fame,
And our hearts forever,
Praise thee, Notre Dame.
And our hearts forever,
Love thee, Notre Dame.
