January 5th 2011, is the Eve of the Theophany of Jesus Christ, a great feast in the Orthodox Church (perhaps the third most important after Pascha, and Pentecost), and a great day for me…a humbling and beautiful day. Today begins my journey with Baker Publishing Group. Baker is an exceptional publishing house. A rarity in this age of spineless, and mindless publishing, where information overload, and bland vanilla ‘commodity‘ based books are the norm. not the exception. A world where profit and revenue (not content and relevance) rule the day. Baker Books represent ideas that are relevant, intelligent and engaging… ideas from authors whose thinking changes the lives of people for good. To be good, and to do good… and this changes the world for the better.
Baker Books has a vision for building up the body of Christ through books that are relevant, intelligent, and engaging. We publish titles for lay Christians on topics such as discipleship, spirituality, encouragement, relationships, marriage, parenting, and the intersection of Christianity and culture. We also publish books and ministry resources for pastors and church leaders, concentrating on topics such as preaching, worship, pastoral ministries, counseling, and leadership.
In an age of dumbing down, thinking, reading, studying, and contemplating let’s not forget that the greatest ‘invention’ in the entire history of mankind, was, and is ink, and ideas translated and preserved on paper, and let’s never underestimate the power of this written word, a power that inspires us to do great things, and offers us the potential to accomplish eternal transcendent things….beautiful things, things that bless and give life to the world. A ‘Bibliophile’, like me, is a lover of books. But beyond the ‘book’ itself as a tangible object, are the seeds of greatness, the ideas that spring forth from its pages, ideas which transform minds, hearts and hands, into instruments of good to bless all mankind.
Glory to God for the revelation and manifestation of the “Word“, our God and Savior Jesus, the Word become Flesh for our salvation, the Spoken Word of the Father from all eternity… the wisdom of the ages, the Word who gives life, and veracity to our words and to our lives.
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.
